What is a corona virus and what are the symptoms

The novel coronavirus is a member of a virus family that can cause a wide range of ailments in human beings that includes causing an infection in the nose, upper throat and sinus, common cold, and also some life-threatening respiratory diseases like SARS. The virus got it to name corona that is derived from the Latin word named corona that means crown or a halo for its shape that form like a crown with a lot of protrusions around it.

These viruses are basically Zoonoses, which means they first infect certain animals then spread from one animal to other animals. Although it is rare that a coronavirus can potentially spread to human beings, but it can if a certain mutation occurs in the virus.

As there were many coronaviruses, infect animals, but most of them are not able to affect human beings. It is believed that most of the people who are affected by this virus had contact with a seafood market in Wuhan, China, which later spread to other people also.

What are the symptoms of the Coronavirus?

The symptoms of the Coronavirus are similar to any other respiratory ailments or infection that can cause cold, running nose, cough and itching in throat or a sore throat, shortness of breath, and also fever. In most cases, people are not able to differentiate between normal cold or the Coronavirus. But there are some of the non-respiratory symptoms, too, like vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea. Most of the symptoms are curable as many people recover after the treatment in a few days. Although, if the virus is spread to your lower respiratory system, then it may cause you pneumonia, bronchitis especially in the older people and the people with a weaker immune system.

 What can you do about coronavirus?

As there is no vaccine for coronavirus, here are certain things you can do to prevent this infection.

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water and keep a sanitizer handy.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with dirty hands

Avoid contact with the infected person as it is more likely to spread from the cough and sneezes of the affected person. Also, it is said to spread from contact from an affected person.

Stay away from your school or workplace if you have a high fever and stay away from an infected person who is showing the symptoms of respiratory symptoms.
