Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of lungs that is characterized by shortness of breath, difficulty in breathing, wheezing, and sneezing. In asthma, the airways become narrower due to mucus that leads to blocking of airflow. Depending on the condition of the person, the symptoms of asthma become worse especially in the night or in the early morning. Also, these symptoms can be triggered due to heavy exercise, dust, pollution, pollens and other allergens.

Cause of Asthma according to Ayurveda

According to Ayurveda, our body is made of mainly three doshas Vata, pitta, and Kapha and Kapha is one of them which is responsible for maintaining health and wellbeing of the body. Asthma is a svasa roga which is caused due to the increased amount of Kapha dosha in the stomach. From there the aggravated Kapha moved into your respiratory tract lungs, trachea and bronchi. This aggravated Kapha once went into the airways block the air passage; create spasm in the bronchial tree that leads to Asthma.

In Ayurveda there are certain herbs and treatments are prescribed for asthma treatments that help in reducing the frequency of asthma;

Ginger and garlic

When it comes to dealing with any sort of inflammation ginger is the best herb you can trust. Ginger along with garlic is proven to release the aggravated Kapha from the air passage hence protecting you from Asthma attacks. You can grate ginger and 2,3  cloves of garlic and drink that concoction.

Turmeric

Turmeric powder is also an effective herb when it comes to relieving from asthma which is present in every Indian household. In Turmeric, curcumin is a yellow pigment which gives turmeric yellow colour is full of anti-oxidant properties and a boon when it comes to curb any sort of inflammation. Which make it best herb while treating asthma. You can make a concoction of ginger and turmeric in warm goat milk and sip on in twice a day. This will help in reducing the frequencies of Asthama attacks.

Panchkarma

Panchkarma is an ayurvedic treatment that involves five procedures or karma. It is a purification process that leads you to five procedures that include the usage of herbal oils, medicated milk, herb and other ayurvedic medicines which is really beneficial for asthma patients. One can also opt for panchakarma treatments in rishikesh which will help in detoxification of the body and removal of excess Kapha from the body.

Bay leaves

Indian bay leaves powder along with some honey in the night reduces the frequency of asthma attacks during the night. Also, taking half spoon of bay leaves powder along with ¼ teaspoon of pippali powder with 1 tablespoon of honey two to three times a day helps in reducing the chronic symptoms of asthma.

Licorice (Mulethi)

Licorice or mulethi is an age-old Indian herb that is known for its exceptional health benefits. Mulethi is filled with anti-inflammatory properties and contains natural Lozenge that keeps your throat moist and helps in preventing dry cough. Drinking herbal tea made up of half teaspoon ginger and mulethi helps to manage the symptoms of asthma.

Adhatoda Vasica

Adhatoda vasica is a traditional Indian herb that has been used for centuries for the treatment of bronchial asthma. It helps in decreasing the viscosity of mucous hence easily removed from the body.
